Carqueja tea

To prepare the tea, use the proportion of 20 g of carqueja for each liter of water. In a container, put the water and bring to fire. Then add the carqueja and wait for it to boil. When it starts to boil, leave it on the fire for another approximately thirty minutes. Then turn off the heat and strain. The recommended consumption dose is four or five cups of carqueja tea a day.


The consumption of carqueja tea is contraindicated for pregnant patients, as it can act as a uterine stimulant. In addition, patients who suffer from low blood pressure – hypotension – or who suffer from hypoglycemia should not consume carqueja. Diabetics who are using this plant must strictly control their blood glucose levels, as they need to assess the drops in order not to cause a very significant drop causing hypoglycemia.
