Leather Hat is the name of a plant well known for the medicinal properties of its leaves. Simple to make, the leather hat tea is used to combat various illnesses such as cough and liver problems, in addition to having a significant diuretic power, that is, helping with weight loss (through the elimination of retained fluids) if combined with good regular diet and physical activity.

What is the leather hat?

Leather hat is the name of a very abundant plant in southern Brazil. With the scientific name Echinodorus grandiflorus , the plant is known by several names, among them are: Alismacéa, Aguapé and “mineiro tea”, due to its consumption in large quantities by people who live in Minas Gerais.

When it reaches maturity, the leather hat can reach 1.5 meters in height and its flowers and leaves can be used medicinally.

Know your health benefits

The Leather Hat tea is indicated as an aid in treatments against cough, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, gout and various skin problems. People with bladder and urinary tract problems benefit from drinking tea, as well as those with liver problems.

People with problems of excess uric acid, gastritis, arteriosclerosis, arthritis and pharyngitis can also drink tea without fear, which will soon see an improvement in health. And constipation sufferers can be happy too, because the tea also works as a great mild laxative.

Because it has a mild diuretic power and prevents the body from accumulating excessively water, drinking tea from a leather hat can help you lose the love handles that bother you, as long as it is combined with good nutrition and frequent physical activities.

And even with little scientific research on medicinal healing properties of the leather hat, it is also popularly used as an anti-inflammatory and anti-rheumatic.

How to make tea?

It is recommended that the tea be consumed two to three times a day and not stored overnight.

To do it is super easy:

  1. In a pan, put a liter of water and wait for it to boil.
  2. Add 20 grams, or two heaped tablespoons, of dried leather hat leaves and turn off the heat.
  3. Cover the pot and keep the tea resting for at least ten minutes.
  4. Strain and drink without sweetening.
