The similarity between some plant species can confuse many people when the subject is related to medicinal use. Therefore, it is worth paying attention not to use the wrong herb, thus hindering the treatment of the disease. This is the case with calamint.

It belongs to the family of Labiadas, and may also be known by the names of Nêveda and Nêveda-greater. It resembles peppermint, another plant used for medicinal purposes. In addition to the appearance, the perfume also draws attention to the proximity between the species.

Calamint properties

The calamint has wild characteristics, being known since the Middle Ages. Its healing properties can be used in cases related to digestion, as an exciting factor, expectorant, sweating and tonic. Therefore, it is also indicated for rheumatic pain, spasms and sprains.

The most common way of using the plant is to prepare teas. This, in turn, should be included in the treatment of patients based on medical advice. Because, despite being a natural substance, its indiscriminate use can have serious consequences for health.

It is recommended that the intake of calamint tea does not exceed three cups a day.
