What is menstrual cramps?
Menstrual colic, also called dysmenorrhea, is pelvic pain that occurs due to the release of prostaglandin, a substance responsible for making the uterus contract and then eliminating the endometrium. The endometrium, in turn, is the inner layer of the uterus that grows to nourish the embryo and, in the case of non-fertilization of the egg, the endometrium flakes off and is eliminated in the form of bleeding.
About 50% of women experience menstrual cramps at some stage of life, dysmenorrhea can be of two types: primary and secondary. When the cause is increased prostaglandin production from the endometrium, it is called primary; when it is the result of pathological alterations, it is of the secondary type.
The main symptom is pain in the lower abdomen, which varies in intensity, which can also be radiated to the back and lower limbs during menstruation. Other symptoms may also be present, such as headaches, breast pain and swelling.
Cinnamon Properties and Benefits
Cinnamon is rich in substances such as manganese, iron and calcium. Prepared in the form of pure tea or combined with other ingredients, cinnamon can be used to combat various health problems. This is only possible thanks to its antibacterial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties. These effects are also the key to treating menstrual cramps.
Thus, cinnamon can be used to combat: thrush, ulcers, tissue inflammation, diarrhea, molar pain, colds, arthritis and headaches. It also fights free radicals, which prevents premature aging, strengthens hair and stimulates memory.
The ingredient is also more than suitable for those people who want to lose weight. This is because cinnamon has a thermogenic effect, promoting an increase in body temperature, thus facilitating the burning of fat. It also makes the stomach empty more slowly, increasing the feeling of fullness.
Cinnamon tea
To prepare cinnamon tea is very simple, just separate 250 ml of filtered water and a teaspoon of cinnamon powder. If you prefer, you can use cinnamon sticks too. The first step is to bring the water to a boil. As soon as it starts bubbling, turn off the heat and add the cinnamon.
You will need to let the tea sit for about five minutes. To do this, keep the container covered. After this time, stir the mixture well and it is ready to be ingested. The indication is that the tea is consumed when waking up or after lunch.
A very important tip for women who have severe cramps is to start using cinnamon tea even before menstruation arrives, at least two days before.
