Boxwood is a plant used in alternative medicine since the 21st century. At first, it was used to treat smallpox and later it was used as a depurative.
In the past, boxwood was also used as a formula to grow hair, as a febrifuge, malaria and bile duct.
The plant has medicinal properties that fight asthma, is anti-rheumatic, anti-syphilitic, hair tonic, laxative, mild diuretic, purgative and helps in the production of sweat.
The drink made from boxwood is indicated for people who suffer from fever, nocturnal urination, hair loss, amoebas, giardia, syphilis, ball passages and urinary inflammation

Boxwood tea as sudorific
Ingredients
- 40 g of dry leaves;
- 1 liter of water.
Method of preparation
Bring all the ingredients to the fire and bring to a boil until reduced by 2/3 of the volume.

Boxwood tea against rheumatic pain
Make compresses from the leaves or use them as ingredients for a bath.
Boxwood tea against fever
Ingredients
- 25 g of boxwood leaves;
- 1 liter of water.
Method of preparation
Bring all the ingredients to the fire and bring to a boil until reduced to a third, sweeten with lots of sugar and try to ingest twice.
Boxwood tea for rheumatism
Ingredients
- 60 g of boxwood bark;
- 1 liter of water.
Method of preparation
Make a decoction for ten minutes and drink it throughout the day.

Care and precautions
Boxwood can have a toxic effect and should only be eaten under medical advice. Excessive drinking can cause gastrointestinal disturbances, including vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, electrolyte disturbances, seizures and even death.
