Guava leaf teas and peels

by Dianna Leon

Much is known about the benefits that guava has, but it is not just in the fruit that we find powerful medicinal properties. Its leaves (and guava bark) are capable of treating everything from a simple toothache to a sexually transmitted disease such as thrush.

Guava leaves and bark have long been used by indigenous peoples as a source of cure and disease prevention. Currently, several researches have proven the power that the plant has, being widely used in alternative medicine.

Benefits of guava leaves and bark

  • The leaves can be used in the treatment of candidiasis through showers with its extract;
  • Chewing these same leaves, prevents and relieves bad breath, in addition to avoiding hangovers and headaches caused by the consumption of alcoholic beverages (when chewed before);
  • Bark tea can be used as an anti-inflammatory in cases of skin lesions or ulcers;
  • Crushing the guava leaves and applying to wounds prevents them from becoming infected, also acting as an efficient healing and analgesic;
  • Both the leaves and the bark have antiseptic properties, being many times more efficient than similar industrialized products;
  • Another benefit of the leaves is to regularize disorders in the menstrual period, easing heavy bleeding.
