Scientific name mentha piperita , mint works as a natural medicine that, according to a study, helps to reduce daily calorie consumption. The study, conducted by Wheeling Jesuit University, involved 27 adults over a 5-day period. With the inhalation of mint oil every two hours, it was noticed that they consumed something around 350 calories less, throughout the day, than those who did not inhale. This same result was observed in participants who only mask the mint leaves or mint gum. With this, it was concluded, therefore, that peppermint helps to reduce appetite and, consequently, eliminate some pounds.

Other benefits

Mint vapor helps relieve colds and coughs due to menthol, a substance that also helps fight viruses and bacteria in the body. Tea made with this herb helps with digestion, as well as helping to treat diarrhea, cramps and stomach aches. It is rich in B vitamins, potassium and calcium, and when used for gargling, it also helps to improve breath and relieve sore throats.

Mint tea also helps to maintain attention and focus, as well as reduce anxiety, acting as an excellent natural tranquilizer. It also helps prevent colds, protect against cancer, cleanse the blood, improve skin texture, remove toxins from the body, and protect teeth and gums.

Correct method of preparation

When prepared as an infusion, in addition to not losing its properties, mint tea is very safe and has a very pleasant aroma and taste, and can be consumed hot or cold. It is important, however, that it is properly prepared so that it is not too low or too high of the herb. But what is the correct way to prepare? Check-out!

– 1 tablespoon of fresh mint leaves
– Half a liter of water

Preparation method:

In a container, place the torn leaves and set aside. In another, pour the water and bring to the fire. When it starts to boil, turn off the heat and pour the water over the leaves and cover, leaving it to rest for around 15 minutes. After that, just strain and consume. You can consume it hot, immediately, or iced, preferably without sweetening, as the taste is quite pleasant even without the presence of sugars, and that these can end up interfering with the benefits of this natural medicine.
