Do you ever feel a feeling like your stomach is burning? Well then. Such symptomatic occurrence is heartburn or heartburn. A word derived from the Greek “pýroses” (to burn), heartburn is characteristic for causing a burning sensation that begins in the “mouth of the stomach” and continues to the pharynx. It is responsible for causing vomiting, intense burning and also for increasing saliva production.

But, did you know that heartburn is nothing more than a symptom of some problem related to the digestive system? That’s right. It could be the digestive tract signaling that it is being affected by something like inflammation in the esophagus, irritation or even gastroesophageal reflux.

The burning sensation, in turn, is a consequence of the released gastric acid, which is intended to facilitate the digestion of food. However, external to the stomach, it ends up irritating the sensitive walls of the digestive system, thus causing a terrible burning sensation. In general, an unbalanced diet is the main factor that causes this problem to arise.
