Originally from Argentina and Chile, limonete belongs to the Verbenaceae family. One of the plant’s main characteristics comes from the pleasant odor it gives off. Furthermore, it has many healing properties and can be used in the process of treating and curing many diseases.

It is identified as a small plant, which can grow between three and seven meters. Its branches are striated and the stem is angular. The limonette has green leaves in an oval shape and white flowers that are organized in small clusters at the end of the branches.

Depending on the region where it is found, it can be known by many other names besides the limonet. Among the main ones are: cedrina, cider, cidrille, cidrillo, cider, lemon balm, false lemon balm, lemon sage and lemon sage.

Medicinal properties of limonet

From a series of active ingredients, limonet can be used to treat many diseases. It has antibacterial, anticathartic, antiemetic, antispasmodic, carminative, cardiac, central nervous system depressant, decongestant, digestive, emmenagogue, stomachic, exciting, febrifuge, sleep-prolonging, sedative and tonic effect.

Therefore, it can be used to treat heart conditions, asthma, bronchitis, nasal congestion, diarrhea and nervous diseases. It also ends up with headache, stomach pain, migraine, fever, flatulence, flu, hypochondria, eye swelling, intestinal infection, melancholy, nausea, neuralgia, tachycardia, vomiting, dizziness, and ringing in the ear.

In the treatment of some of the diseases presented above, the parts of the limonette used are the leaves and flowers. To prepare herb tea, which is one of the main recipes used in natural medicine, just reserve 200 ml of filtered water and two teaspoons of leaves.

Bring the water to a boil. As soon as it starts bubbling, turn off the heat and add the indicated amount of herb. Smother the container and let it sit for five minutes. After that, just use a sieve to remove the leaves and the drink will be ready to drink.

For cases of insomnia, the indication is to have a cup at night. The same tea can also be used as a compress to treat eye puffiness.
