Among the most sublime moments of every woman is pregnancy and the whole process that comes after the baby is born. During these periods, milk is produced, the most important food for the baby in the first two years of life. However, some mothers have certain difficulties with this procedure and cannot form enough fluid to breastfeed their child. On the other hand, there are those who find it so easy to produce milk that they end up becoming “milk mothers” for other children.

In general, the milk takes a long time to “descend” in the first child. But if you feel like you’re not producing enough milk for your baby to breastfeed correctly, some teas can help you become a more productive mother. Before meeting them, understand how the breastfeeding process works.

How does milk production take place?

When a woman is pregnant, two hormones are the protagonists, they are: estrogen and progesterone. A third element that develops more and more during the nine months is prolactin. When the placenta is removed, the latter grows at the expense of the other two, as it is released with the intention of letting the body know that milk production must be in full steam. Prolactin is also known as the maternal instinct hormone, as it is responsible for the greater feeling of “maternity”.

Milk is actually produced within the alveoli, structures located in the breasts of women and connected to the nipple by ducts, a network of channels that increase in size during pregnancy. In the second trimester of pregnancy, the milk distribution system is already complete, so that the mother has the possibility to breastfeed her child, even if the baby is born prematurely.

The only nutritious and healthy food for children under two years of age is breast milk. It then becomes very important for the baby’s growth and development.

Teas to increase mothers’ milk production

Fennel

Specialists are unable to explain how this plant acts to increase milk production, but some research indicates that fennel may have an estrogen-like effect, thus stimulating the work of the alveoli, aiding in the production of this liquid.

To make tea from this plant, simmer a teaspoon of fennel and a glass of water over low heat for approximately five minutes. Strain the seeds and drink the tea. Prefer not to sweeten the liquid and take it in the afternoon.

Agnocastus (Vitex)

Another herb, which like fennel, also promotes lactation, is agnocastus or vitex. Research and studies have already proven that this plant regulates the production of hormones and is also beneficial to regularize the menstrual cycle. If you want to enjoy these properties, drink 1-2 cups of this tea a day and see the difference.

Heads up

Both pregnancy and breastfeeding are delicate periods for the child. Therefore, always seek to consult a trusted physician and never prescribe medication without the specialist’s consent.
